Description
Background
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is seeking competitive pricing for a cattle lease on Dinner Island Ranch Wildlife Management Area (WMA), Caracara Unit. The mission of the FWC is to manage fish and wildlife resources for their long-term well-being and the benefit of people. This contract aims to utilize cattle grazing as a method to manage plant community composition and structure, thereby supporting wildlife and natural habitat restoration efforts.
Work Details
The grazing lease encompasses 16,868 acres capable of supporting 1,053 Animal Units (AU). The objectives include improving native forage levels and reducing biomass through grazing and prescribed burning. The herd will primarily consist of brood cows, with bulls and heifers included as necessary, adhering to a suggested bull-to-cow ratio of 1:20. Cattle distribution across multiple management units is required to prevent overgrazing.
The contractor must maintain fire breaks, mow road shoulders, and submit monthly reports detailing maintenance activities. Additionally, the contractor is responsible for maintaining all fencing, cattle guards, and holding pens in good condition, with regular inspections mandated.
Period of Performance
The contract will be effective for five years upon execution or August 6, 2026, whichever is later. There is an option for renewal for an additional term of up to five years based on satisfactory performance.
Place of Performance
Dinner Island Ranch WMA, Caracara Unit located in west-central Hendry County, Florida.
Bidder Requirements
Bidders must be registered in the MyFloridaMarketPlace (MFMP) system and with SunBiz prior to bid opening. Certified Minority-owned, Woman-owned, and Service-Disabled Veteran Business Enterprises are encouraged to participate. Bidders must provide a performance bond calculated based on the total income derived from the animal units allowed on the WMA plus estimated costs for fence maintenance and disking fire lines.
