RAMSYS Wins $20 Million Navy Order for Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) Supplier Capacity and Test Equipment

RAM-System GmbH (RAMSYS) of Ottobrunn, Germany, has received a $20.1 million firm-fixed-price delivery order from Naval Sea Systems Command to expand supplier capacity for the Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) program and procure seeker-head test equipment. The work will take place in Überlingen, Germany, and Tucson, Arizona, with completion expected by January 2030. The Navy awarded the order without competition under an international agreement supporting the U.S.-German program.

Rolling Airframe Missile Supplier Capacity and Test Equipment Details

RAMSYS will carry out the supplier capacity expansion and procure equipment for testing RAM seeker heads. The award notice places 80% of the work in Überlingen and 20% in Tucson. It does not identify the equipment configuration or a production-capacity target.

The seeker-head equipment relates to a component of RAM’s guidance system. According to a Navy fact sheet on RAM, the missile uses passive radio-frequency and infrared guidance. The new order addresses supplier capacity and testing equipment rather than missile procurement or a design change.

Rolling Airframe Missile Program Background

RAM is a cooperative U.S.-German naval self-defense program. The Navy describes it as a quick-reaction weapon for countering anti-ship cruise missiles and other air and surface threats, deployed through the Mk 49 launcher and SeaRAM. RAM Block 2, which reached initial operational capability in 2015, incorporates improved maneuverability, range and radio-frequency reception.

Award and Contractor Background

The delivery order falls under a RAM basic ordering agreement that began in February 2024. Other work issued through that agreement includes an $18.1 million order to develop a common electronic support measurement system for RAM and a $8.4 million order for launcher-system spares for Germany’s F126 frigates.

RAMSYS also holds a RAM Block 2B missile-round-pack contract with a potential value of $1.47 billion for German Navy requirements. An earlier $5 million order for a capacity increase had a performance end date in March 2024. The Navy cited the U.S.-German international agreement as the basis for awarding the new order without competition.
