Disaster salvage and recovery of NLM collections. Includes providing professional salvage and recovery services for the National Library of Medicine (NLM) collections in the event of disasters or emergencies, such as flooding, fires, earthquakes, biological infestations, or other catastrophes that threaten collection materials. The collections include approximately 30 million print and non-print items, such as rare and historical books, manuscripts, photographs, microforms, and various media formats, many of which are irreplaceable or difficult to replace. Services are required when the magnitude of the disaster exceeds NLM's internal response capabilities, ensuring the preservation and recovery of valuable biomedical literature and media.
