Background

Grant Details
The SuRE program supports research capacity building at institutions that award baccalaureate and/or graduate degrees in biomedical sciences and have received limited NIH Research Project Grant funding. Eligible projects must involve student participation and can include research in basic, social, clinical, behavioral, or translational sciences. The maximum budget request is $100,000 in direct costs per year for up to four years. Applications must demonstrate a clear plan for engaging students in the research process and enhancing the institutional research environment.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include higher education institutions that award undergraduate and/or graduate degrees in biomedical sciences and have received no more than $6 million from NIH RPGs in the past two fiscal years. Additionally, these institutions must enroll at least 25% of undergraduate students supported by Pell grants. Foreign organizations are not eligible to apply.

Period of Performance
The maximum period of support for the grant is four years, with specific application due dates outlined for new applications as well as renewals.

Grant Value
The total value of the grant can be up to $100,000 per year for direct costs over a maximum of four years.

Place of Performance
The grant will be performed at eligible higher education institutions across the United States that meet the specified criteria.
