Secondary Analysis and Integration of Existing Data to Elucidate Cancer Risk and Related Outcomes (R21 Clinical Trials Not Allowed)

Background
The National Cancer Institute (NCI), along with other participating Institutes, encourages applications for secondary data analysis and integration of existing datasets to elucidate cancer risk and related outcomes. This initiative aims to address key scientific questions relevant to cancer by supporting the analysis of existing clinical, environmental, surveillance, health services, vital statistics, behavioral, lifestyle, genomic, and molecular profiles data. The goal is to leverage innovative analyses of existing data to advance cancer research.

Grant Details
The grant supports applications that propose innovative secondary data analyses addressing knowledge gaps in cancer control. Specific objectives include:

- Linking and analyzing multi-level/domain data types (genomic, environmental, socio-demographic) to study specific cancer types;
- Utilizing updated resources and tools in population-scale cancer research;
- Employing innovative analytic techniques;
- Assessing cancer-related behavioral health questions;
- Advancing image analysis for cancer-related information;
- Developing strategies for cancer surveillance;
- Addressing health inequities.

All analyses must focus on elucidating cancer etiology, incidence, prevalence, natural history, or related outcomes.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include higher education institutions (public and private), nonprofits (with or without 501(c)(3) status), for-profit organizations (including small businesses), local/state governments, tribal governments, federal agencies, and foreign organizations. Individuals from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Period of Performance
The maximum project period is 2 years with direct costs limited to $275,000 over this period. No more than $200,000 in direct costs is allowed in any single year.

Direct costs are limited to $275,000 over a two-year project period.
