Background
The Chesterton Interceptor Rehabilitation project is initiated by the Calumet Region in Porter County, Indiana. The primary goal of this project is to extend the life of a 48-inch reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) sewer interceptor located along 8th Street. This rehabilitation aims to ensure the continued functionality and reliability of the sewer system, which is critical for public health and environmental protection.

Work Details
The scope of work includes segmented slip lining of the existing sewer pipe using insertion pits. The segments of the new pipe will be lowered into these pits and pushed into place using hydraulic pressure. The total length of the pipe to be rehabilitated spans approximately 3,300 feet from 8th Street and Morgan Avenue to the Wastewater Treatment Plant on League Lane. The contractor must coordinate with various stakeholders, including utility representatives, to ensure compliance with safety protocols such as lock-out/tag-out procedures for worker protection. Additionally, any hazardous materials encountered during construction must be reported immediately, and appropriate safety measures must be taken. The contractor is responsible for cleaning all sewer segments prior to inspection and ensuring that no debris remains post-construction.
