Background
The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is hosting a roundtable with Acting Commissioner for Patents Barry Schindler and Chief AI Officer Jonathan Spencer to discuss the agency's use of artificial intelligence (AI) in patent processes.

This event aims to gather preliminary market information from industry partners regarding innovative tools and solutions that can enhance efficiency, quality, and consistency in examination-related processes.

Work Details
The roundtable will cover an overview of current AI initiatives at USPTO and future plans, followed by a discussion session.

USPTO is specifically seeking information on tools that can achieve the following objectives:
1) Develop a Patent application filing wizard with advanced functionality for creating 'exam ready' and 'issue ready' applications, including application readiness checks and post-allowance checks at issue fee payment;
2) Provide patent application filing analytics that support faster, higher quality decisions through agentic analysis of patent applications and real-time scenario analysis.

Vendors must be prepared to demonstrate how their AI tools or consulting services meet at least one of these objectives during the roundtable.

The event will take place on October 15, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. CDT.

Bidder Requirements
Vendors must provide their Unique Entity Identifier (UEI). If awarded a contract, all data and algorithms remain the property of USPTO and must be stored in the United States. All underlying models must be American-built with available model cards. Demonstrations should discuss technical architecture of proposed AI tools. For Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions, FedRAMP certification is preferred for faster implementation. Vendors should also consider integration plans with major identity providers and ensure monitoring and auditability.
