CFPB - PII Discovery and Redaction - MRAS

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) regarding available products and services for PII (Personally Identifiable Information) discovery and redaction. The CFPB receives consumer complaints about financial products and services, which are submitted through their CRM system. Before publishing these complaints, the CFPB takes steps to remove personal information and sensitive content. The current process involves a custom algorithm, human reviewers, and a final algorithm. The CFPB is seeking information on industry capabilities to provide a solution that would replace the existing algorithm and reduce the need for manual reviews.

The purpose of this RFI is to gather information that will help the CFPB plan for a future acquisition by understanding available solutions and estimated costs. The desired solution would serve as the primary method of detecting and redacting PII in consumer-submitted complaint narratives. It should replace the current algorithm and ideally eliminate or significantly reduce the need for human review. The solution should accurately identify direct and indirect PII within the narratives while avoiding over-redaction that could negatively impact readability.

The CFPB has provided specific questions for vendors to address in their responses to the RFI. These questions cover recommended solutions, cost breakdowns, approach to identifying PII, minimizing false positives, scalability, infrastructure requirements, and information needed to support accurate proposals. Vendors are also asked to provide their company information, relevant experience, and small-business size status.
