Passenger Carrying Vehicles

The Passenger Carrying Vehicles program within the Air Force is dedicated to acquiring a variety of vehicles to meet diverse operational needs. These include sedans, law enforcement sedans, ambulances, armored sedans, and different types of buses. The main aim is to provide Air Force personnel with reliable transportation for both routine and specialized missions. This initiative supports functions ranging from general transportation to specific roles like law enforcement, medical evacuation, and emergency response.

A key objective of this program is to enhance the operational readiness of Air Force units by supplying vehicles tailored to their mission requirements. Law enforcement sedans are equipped with heavy-duty components for security missions, while ambulances are designed for medical evacuations and disaster relief operations. Additionally, buses are included to address mass transit needs across various Air Force commands and training units.

The procurement strategy for these vehicles follows a priority buy model managed by the 441 Vehicle Support Chain Operations Squadron. This model determines vehicle requirements based on factors such as depreciation, service life, sustainment costs, and mission priorities. The quantities procured annually are adjusted according to these projections to meet the evolving needs of active duty and reserve components, as well as initiatives like Rapid Airfield Damage Repair.

Furthermore, the program aligns with legislative mandates such as Title 10 U.S.C. Chapter 9A and Section 1815 of the FY 2008 National Defense Authorization Act. These mandates highlight the importance of maintaining a fleet capable of supporting homeland defense missions and providing military support to civil authorities during domestic emergencies. The program ensures that vehicle procurements align with current mission priorities and operational demands.
