Description
The Mechanized Material Handling Equipment (MMHE) program is designed to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Air Force's logistics and supply chain operations. This initiative focuses on acquiring Mechanized Materials Handling Systems (MMHS) and Storage Aids Systems (SAS), which are crucial for the storage, receipt, and shipment of materials at bases worldwide. The primary goal is to modernize and improve supply operations, base-level aircraft maintenance, air transportation missions, and other warehouse processes through the deployment of both mechanized and non-mechanized systems.
A key objective of the MMHE program is to reduce pipeline time and minimize damage to weapon system components during handling and storage. By implementing advanced material storage and distribution systems such as racks, shelving, modular cabinets, conveyors, vertical lift modules, and narrow-aisle warehouse trucks, the program aims to streamline logistics processes. Additionally, aerial port equipment like heavy-duty freight handling conveyors and cargo storage racks are vital for maintaining rapid deployment capabilities. The program also includes external aircraft fuel tank storage systems to ensure efficient storage and access.
The MMHE initiative supports various Air Force missions by providing essential equipment that enhances safety and reduces congestion in logistics operations. It aligns with Section 1815 of the FY 2008 National Defense Authorization Act, emphasizing its necessity for homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and military support to civil authorities. This support extends to both active and reserve components of the Armed Forces in achieving these objectives.
For FY25, the program plans to procure material storage and distribution systems, an external aircraft fuel tank storage system, and aerial port equipment systems. These acquisitions are tailored to meet specific mission requirements at different bases, ensuring that each system is uniquely designed for its intended purpose. The program management also includes administrative funds for government costs associated with these procurements.
