Description
The Amphibious Equipment program, part of the Navy's Civil Engineering Support Equipment category, aims to enhance Navy-Marine Corps amphibious operations. It focuses on acquiring equipment that aids in transferring vehicles and cargo from ships to shore. This supports both Logistics Over the Shore (LOTS) and Joint Logistics Over the Shore operations. The main goal is to ensure efficient ship-to-shore transfers across various terrains, such as bare beaches and semi-improved port facilities.
A significant element of this program is the Joint Petroleum Over the Shore (JPOTS) capability set. This equipment is vital for Assault Follow-on Echelon (AFOE) and Maritime Prepositioning Force (MPF) operations, providing crucial logistics for ground forces ashore. The JPOTS capability plays a key role in Distributed Maritime Operations (DMO) and Expeditionary Advance Base Operations (EABO), facilitating the transfer of bulk petroleum from littoral transition points to beach termination units.
The strategic aim of the Amphibious Equipment program is to strengthen the Strategic Sealift Program by ensuring naval forces have the necessary resources for effective maritime logistics. By investing in specialized amphibious equipment, the program seeks to maintain readiness and operational flexibility in diverse environments. This initiative highlights a commitment to enhancing joint operational capabilities and ensuring sustained support for naval expeditionary missions.
