Light Tactical Wheeled Vehicles

Light Tactical Wheeled Vehicles is a research and development initiative under the Army's System Development & Demonstration (SDD) budget activity. The program aims to enhance tactical mobility for the Infantry Brigade Combat Teams (IBCT) and the 75th Ranger Regiment by motorizing them with the Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV) and the electric Light Reconnaissance Vehicle (eLRV). The goals include providing commanders with a competitive advantage in the Multi-Domain Operational (MDO) Environment through reduced acoustic and thermal signature, silent mobility, increased dash speed, extended range, and increased reliability. Additionally, the program supports modernization of the current Tactical Wheeled Vehicle fleets by investigating technology insertions such as predictive logistics, vetronics, Victory Architecture, autonomous operations, and other emerging technologies.

The program also includes funding for the development and testing of the ISV Security Force Assistance Brigade (SFAB) vehicle configuration kits and the initiation of eLRV Middle Tier of Acquisition Rapid Prototyping (MTA-RP). Furthermore, it supports the design, development, and testing of prototype HMMWV Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) to improve capabilities such as silent mobility, extended silent watch, reduced fuel consumption, increased automotive performance, integrated charging, potential Vehicle-To-Grid (V2G), and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. The program's objectives also involve refining operational requirements and obtaining early user feedback to support future sustainment and operational movement operating concepts.
