VA Real Time Location System (RTLS)

In support of VA Transformation Initiative Health Care Efficiency, the RTLS solution shall support the objectives of focused clinical and administrative process efficiency and total asset visibility. The mission of the RTLS Program is to provide multiple technologies to include Wi-Fi based location finding, active and passive Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), and a number of other location technologies, such as ultrasound and infrared when a Wi-Fi based solution is not feasible. These technologies will be used to track the location and flow of assets and people, as well as monitoring factors, such as temperature.

These capabilities can result in the design of more optimal processes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of patient care, reductions in staff hours spent searching for equipment, and the ability to maintain more accurate less expensive inventory levels within VA. The purpose of the RTLS solution is to improve the efficiency of targeted business processes in its hospitals, clinics, offices and cemeteries to support the missions of Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Veterans Benefit Administration (VBA) and the National Cemetery Administration (NCA) and other VA entities.
