Description

**Revised from version posted on 7/11/25** OSPI intends to award a sole source contract to WSPEF/AWSP to administer the legislatively required Leadership Internship Program for superintendents, principals, and program administrators. This includes development of application and program materials, maintenance of the current the Intern Program database, and processing of applications candidate selection.
Background
The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) in Washington State intends to award a sole source contract to the Washington School Principals’ Education Foundation, doing business as the Association of Washington School Principals (AWSP), to administer the Leadership Internship Program for superintendents, principals, and program administrators.

This program is legislatively required and aims to enhance leadership within educational institutions by providing necessary training and support for aspiring leaders. The contract is funded through Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill (ESSB) 5187.

Work Details
Under this contract, AWSP will perform several key tasks:

- Develop application materials and program materials for the Leadership Internship Program;
- Maintain the Intern Program database;
- Process applications and facilitate candidate selection;
- Collaborate with various educational organizations to define required training and workshops;
- Organize and implement training activities;
- Develop workshops for participants;
- Provide access to an Aspiring School Leaders Network with specific topics across four stages of professional learning;
- Maintain data related to principal interns;
- Communicate regularly with interns on professional issues;
- Recommend adjustments to the program as needed.
