Description

Background
The University of Washington (UW) is collaborating with Washington Sea Grant (WSG) and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) to conduct genome sequencing and research aimed at improving control and eradication efforts for the European green crab (Carcinus maenas). This initiative is funded by a $174,000 state general fund appropriation as part of the 2023-2025 fiscal biennium supplemental operating budget, effective from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025. The goal is to achieve a chromosome-scale, haplotype-resolved de novo genome assembly for the European green crab.

Work Details
Cantata Biosciences, Inc. will perform chromosome-scale, haplotype-resolved de novo genome assembly for the European green crab. The work will utilize both long-read PacBio HiFi sequencing and short-read Omni-C sequencing to produce a highly complete HiRise genome assembly. Deliverables include:
- A chromosome-scale, haplotype-resolved de novo HiRise genome assembly
- Topologically Associating Domains analysis
- Annotation data including a .gff file along with predicted gene coding sequences (CDS) and protein sequences.
Cantata is uniquely qualified as they are the only commercial entity providing this service and hold the patent for the Omni-C approach necessary for this project.

Period of Performance
The contract will commence on March 30, 2025, and is expected to last for nine months.

Place of Performance
The work will be performed at Cantata Biosciences' facilities located at 100 Barber Avenue, Worcester, MA 01606.
