RFQ for CM at Risk for the Expand VT-Carilion School of Medicine and FBRI Project

Background
The Expand Virginia Tech-Carilion School of Medicine and Fralin Biomedical Research Institute Project aims to provide critical facilities and infrastructure to support growth in programs for an anticipated increase in impact. The project will create capacity to accommodate the total enrollment of 400 students and will include team rooms, patient clinical exam rooms, medical instruction learning studios, lecture halls, dry instruction labs, a testing center, academic support spaces, and administration spaces.
Additionally, it will involve the renovation of approximately 51,000 GSF backfill space for research laboratory and computation/data analytics capacity for FBRI.

Work Details
The project will be phased beginning with the construction of the medical school followed by renovations to the research institute. The sites are located within an urban conservation and redevelopment area, and the project shall incorporate urban design features and architectural forms to create complete streetscapes which accommodate pedestrians in the public realm in an accessible and welcoming manner.
Additional pedestrian pathways and connections shall be explored during design to establish or improve site connectivity between the university’s facilities within the campus. The project will seek to exceed a target goal of 50% of all discretionary spending with small businesses certified by Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity (DSBSD).
