RFP 25-05 School of Data Science Entrepreneurship Building

Background
The University of Virginia (UVA) is seeking highly qualified architectural consulting firms to provide program verification, architectural design, and engineering services for the construction of the School of Data Science (SDS) Entrepreneurship Building. This initiative aims to foster collaboration between the SDS and faculty across the University, creating a vibrant interdisciplinary research environment that connects researchers with commercialization resources.

Work Details
The contract includes the following services: program verification, architectural design, and engineering services for a five-level building approximately 11,200 square feet per level, including a mechanical basement and penthouse. The building will feature specialized laboratory settings designed for interdisciplinary research, instructional spaces, communal areas, and flexible environments for data engagement. Sustainability is a core principle, with energy-efficient systems and sustainable materials being integral to the design. The selected firm must demonstrate experience in planning and designing similar facilities in higher education settings and familiarity with LEED certification and the UVA Higher Education Capital Outlay Manual (HECOM).

Period of Performance
The project timeline includes a detailed program completion by June 2025, with subsequent phases including proposal submissions due by August 13, 2025.

Place of Performance
The SDS Entrepreneurship Building will be located on Site 1B of the Emmet Ivy Corridor at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA.

Bidder Requirements
Firms must have a license to do business in Virginia and demonstrate professional registration. They are required to register in eVA, Virginia's electronic procurement system. The University encourages participation by SWaM firms (Minority-Owned, Women-Owned, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned businesses) and requires quarterly reporting of expenditures related to these firms.
