RFP 049302502: Private Security Services

Background
Virginia Tech, an agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia, is seeking proposals to establish a contract for private security services. The university has utilized external security services since 2012 to enhance visibility and provide scheduled security at various campus buildings. The goal of this contract is to ensure safety and security across the campus, particularly in defined areas and during specific times throughout the academic year.

Work Details
The contractor will provide uniformed security officers who are not authorized to make arrests or carry firearms but will assist the Virginia Tech Police. Responsibilities include overseeing building security, checking identification, signing in visitors, and conducting property checks. Security services are required for six academic buildings from mid-August through early December and again from mid-January to mid-May each academic year, with additional coverage during summer months.

Specific staffing requirements include:
- 714 hours per week during fall and spring semesters.
- 266 hours per week during summer.
- Coverage for the Innovation Campus in Alexandria once operational.
- Special event coverage with a minimum notice of 48 hours.
- Training for Campus Security Officers as per Virginia law, including First Aid and CPR certification.

Period of Performance
The contract term is for two years with an option for four one-year renewals. Services will be provided on an ongoing basis as needed throughout the academic year.

Place of Performance
Services will primarily be performed on the Blacksburg campus and may extend to the Innovation Campus located in Alexandria, Virginia.
