Description

Sealed bids are invited for the storm damage repairs of Upper & Lower Powhatan Lakes Dams in Powhatan County, VA, located on Stegers Creek, Northwest of Powhatan Courthouse, near U.S. Route 60. Upper Powhatan Creek Dam, rebuilt in 2008, is an earthen dam with a watershed area comprised mostly of forested lands with some single- family residences and open space.Lower Powhatan Dam is an earthen dam with a watershed area comprised of mostly undeveloped forested land cover. The work can generally be described as the removal of a damaged concrete wall and volunteer vegetation at the Lower Powhatan dam, replacing of rip rap at both dam sites, grouted riprap, and concrete grouting under the existing spillways at both dams.
Background
The Department of Wildlife Resources in Richmond, Virginia is seeking sealed bids for storm damage repairs to the Upper and Lower Powhatan Lakes Dams located in Powhatan County, VA. The Upper Powhatan Creek Dam was rebuilt in 2008 and is primarily an earthen dam situated on a watershed area that includes forested lands and some residential areas.

The Lower Powhatan Dam is also an earthen dam with a watershed area mainly consisting of undeveloped forested land. The goal of this contract is to restore the integrity of these dams following storm damage.

Work Details
The work involves several key tasks:
1) Removal of a damaged concrete wall and volunteer vegetation at the Lower Powhatan Dam;
2) Replacement of rip rap at both dam sites;
3) Installation of grouted riprap;
4) Concrete grouting under the existing spillways at both dams.

The project specifications detail construction staging, erosion and sediment control, seeding and stabilization measures, as well as access and staging areas for the work.
