The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) is seeking a certified pesticide applicator to address the invasive species Phragmites australis at the Saxis Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Accomack County, VA. The goal of this contract is to effectively manage and reduce the spread of this invasive plant species, which poses a threat to local ecosystems.
Work Details
The contractor will aerially treat 150 acres of invasive Phragmites australis using helicopter or drone methods. Specific responsibilities include:
1. Treating 90 acres of phragmites outlined in orange on the attached Saxis Marsh Phragmites Map.
2. Locating and treating an additional 60 acres within and adjacent to the area outlined in red labeled 'SaxisBurnUnit-355'. If necessary, the contractor may identify and spray additional phragmites within the Saxis WMA property boundary to meet the 150-acre target.
3. Providing and mixing an aquatic-safe herbicide blend, specifically utilizing imazapyr or a mixture of imazapyr/glyphosate with a non-ionic low-foam surfactant, with prior approval from DWR.
4. Following all herbicide label instructions and ensuring all products are safe for use in aquatic environments.
5. Providing a copy of flight paths and spray locations after treatment completion.

All services must be completed between September 5 - October 15, 2024.
