Island Ford Transfer Station Floor Rehabilitation

Background
The Island Ford Transfer Station is a facility located in Alleghany County, Virginia, responsible for collecting, managing, recycling, and disposing of solid waste. It serves as the hub for collection and disposal services for the entire County, including recycling operations for metals, oil, and antifreeze. The facility also processes brush into mulch for residents and collects tires for recycling. The goal of this contract is to rehabilitate a section of the concrete floor at the Transfer Station to ensure its continued operation and safety.

Work Details
The project involves the removal and replacement of approximately 780 square feet of reinforced concrete floor. Specific tasks include:
- Demolition: Saw-cutting 780 square feet of existing concrete to facilitate removal; breaking up and removing the existing concrete while ensuring proper disposal of debris.
- Sub-Grade Preparation: Excavating the area to the required depth, grading, compacting the sub-grade to create a stable base for new concrete, and applying a 10-mil vapor barrier.
- Rebar Installation: Installing epoxy-coated rebar at 2-foot centers and ensuring secure tying at all corners.
- Concrete Pouring: Pouring approximately 12 cubic yards of high-strength (5000 psi), air-entrained, steel fiber reinforced concrete with a thickness of 8 inches.
- Finishing and Curing: Finishing the surface for smoothness and applying a curing agent suitable for future epoxy coating application.

Period of Performance
The anticipated timeline includes advertisement and issuance of RFP on October 4, 2024; mandatory site visit on October 11, 2024; receipt of proposals by October 18, 2024; selection by November 6, 2024; with contract operations expected to begin on November 12, 2024.
