Background
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking bids for towing services to support emergency operations in the Appomattox Residency. This contract aims to ensure that roadways are cleared of stalled, abandoned, or stuck vehicles during adverse weather conditions such as snow, ice storms, and hurricanes. The goal is to maintain safe travel conditions on primary and secondary roadways in Nelson and Amherst Counties.

Work Details
The contractor will provide prepositioned on-call towing services during emergencies. The services include:
- Clearing roadways of vehicles that impede traffic flow during emergencies.
- Towing of VDOT equipment if it breaks down or becomes stuck, with prior approval from the VDOT Contract Administrator.
- The contractor must have two heavy-duty tow vehicles and two light-duty tow vehicles available for Lot 1, and one heavy-duty tow vehicle for Lot 2.
- Heavy-duty tow vehicles must have a minimum boom rating of 25 tons and a GVWR of 33,000 lbs. Light-duty vehicles must be capable of towing Class I or II vehicles with a minimum GVWR of 10,000 lbs.
- All equipment must be maintained in good working condition and ready for operation at all times.
- Towing services will primarily be performed on the primary and secondary roadway systems in Nelson and Amherst Counties but may extend to other areas serviced by VDOT as needed.

Period of Performance
The contract will commence upon award and will last for one year, with the possibility of renewal.

Place of Performance
Services will be performed at designated staging locations in Appomattox Residency, specifically in Nelson County (Woods Mill and Lovingston) and Amherst County (Snowden).
