Heritage High School Media Center HVAC Replacement

Background
The Heritage High School Media Center HVAC Replacement project is initiated by Newport News Public Schools, located at 5800 Marshall Avenue, Newport News, Virginia. The primary goal of this contract is to remove and replace the existing HVAC system in the Media Center to improve air quality and comfort for students and staff. The project is overseen by the Executive Director of Plant Services, Mr. Wade Beverly, with mechanical and electrical engineering services provided by Thompson Consulting Engineers.

Work Details
The scope of work includes:
1) Modifications of existing packaged rooftop units from constant volume operation to variable air volume operation;
2) Installation of new variable air volume units and hot water piping, including necessary modifications to main ductwork;
3) Installation of a new ductless split system;
4) Testing, adjusting, and balancing of the complete HVAC system including rooftop units and terminal units;
5) Upgrading the control system to support new equipment;
6) All required electrical work to support the mechanical scope.

The contractor must also obtain all necessary permits and pay applicable fees.

Period of Performance
Work is expected to commence upon receipt of the Owner’s written Notice to Proceed and must be substantially completed by August 15, 2025. Final completion is required before September 12, 2025. Liquidated damages will be assessed at $1,000 per day for delays beyond these dates.

The contract will be performed at Heritage High School located at 5800 Marshall Avenue, Newport News, Virginia.
