Forestry Mulching - FCMV

Background
The Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia is seeking to manage invasive species on its property through forestry mulching. The goal is to clear approximately 30 acres of invasive trees and brush, specifically targeting Bradford Pear trees and autumn olive. This project aligns with the agency's mission to maintain the ecological integrity of its grounds.

Work Details
The contractor will perform forestry mulching on 30 acres, ensuring that all native hardwood trees are left un-mulched where possible. The work must be conducted using heavy-duty wheeled or tracked vehicles equipped with rotary grinding, specifically FECON-style grinding heads, with a minimum horsepower rating of 300. All stumps, woody residue, and vegetation must be ground or chipped to ground level, with the by-product uniformly spread over the contract area.

The finished product should create a uniform ground surface suitable for seeding and maintenance with standard rotary mowing equipment. Safety signage must be posted at worksite entrances, and all operations must comply with Virginia’s Forestry Best Management Practices (BMPs) and OSHA safety guidelines. The contractor is responsible for verifying mulching areas with the Site Supervisor and reporting any unsafe conditions immediately.

Period of Performance
Work must commence within 21 days of contract award and be completed no later than 90 days after the start date.

The work will take place at the Frontier Culture Museum located at 1290 Richmond Rd., Staunton, Virginia.
