FF Filter Gates Improvements

Background
Fairfax County is soliciting pre-bid qualifications for the construction of the FF Filter Gates Improvements at the Noman M. Cole, Jr. Pollution Control Plant (NCPCP) located at 9399 Richmond Highway, Lorton, Virginia 22079.
The project aims to enhance the facility's ability to treat tertiary clarifiers effluent by improving the filter gates to reduce backwash water return.
The NCPCP operates as a 67 million-gallons-per-day Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant with peak flows up to 120 MGD, functioning continuously to meet operational needs.

Work Details
The scope of work includes:
- Inspection of existing influent gate and effluent valve wall thimble to confirm condition and bolt pattern requirements.
- Replacement of rectangular butterfly backwash waste valves in each filter gullet with electrically actuated upward opening gates and manually operated upward opening gates.
- Replacement of reverse travel sluice gates on the influent channel of each filter with electrically actuated downward opening gates and manually operated downward opening gates.
- Replacement of existing mud valves with new mud valves.
- Replacement of grating at influent valves.
- Installation of a concrete bulkhead at the downstream end of the east influent channel and enlargement of the channel access opening.
The project will be executed in phases due to concurrent construction activities at NCPCP.

Period of Performance
The General Contract for this project is anticipated to be advertised for bid in January 2025, with bid opening in February 2025.
The contract award date is projected for April 2025, followed by an anticipated construction start in April 2025.
The overall construction duration is planned for approximately 21 months.
