Fairview Permanent Fire Station

Background
The Fairview Permanent Fire Station project is issued by the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services of Fairfax County, Virginia. The mission of this project is to replace the existing Fairview Fire Station with a new facility that meets modern standards and sustainability goals, including LEED-Gold certification and Net Zero Energy design.

Work Details
The project involves the following key tasks:

1. Demolition of the existing Fairview Fire Station, which is approximately 8,500 square feet and includes three apparatus bays. The contractor must handle all utility disconnections, hazardous material abatement, and obtain a demolition permit.

2. Construction of a new fire station facility that will be approximately 13,500 square feet, two stories high with three apparatus bays. The construction will include interior finishes, casework, mechanical systems, and fire suppression systems. Unique features will include a geothermal well field, high-efficiency mechanical units, a tight air and thermal envelope, a photovoltaic system, and an AirVac system in the apparatus bay.

3. Site work will encompass the emergency apparatus apron, parking areas, stormwater management facilities, landscaping, relocation of the fuel station facility on-site, equipment foundations, and site lighting systems. Coordination with public utilities is also required.

4. After substantial completion of the new facility, the contractor will demolish the temporary fire station located at 11112 Chapel Road in Fairfax Station and restore that site to its original greenfield condition.

Period of Performance
The contract length is set for 720 calendar days from the notice to proceed.

Place of Performance
The construction will take place at 5600 Burke Centre Parkway, Fairfax Station, Virginia 22039 for the new fire station and at 11112 Chapel Road for the temporary fire station demolition.
