Amelia County Animal Shelter

Background
The Amelia County Animal Shelter project is initiated by Amelia County, aiming to construct a new facility to serve as an animal shelter. The project is designed to provide a comprehensive space for animal care, including administrative and animal housing areas. Architectural services are provided by Solex Architecture, Inc., based in Danville, Virginia.

Work Details
The project involves the construction of a new 4,200 square foot animal shelter with an additional 1,100 square feet of exterior space. Key features include:
- Administrative spaces: adoption lobby, restrooms, reception/customer service counter, offices, and break room.
- Animal housing area: 17 dog runs (each connected to an exterior run), a cat room, a stray/quarantine room, and a medical/isolation room.
- Additional support spaces: receiving room, food storage area, clean equipment area, and a get-acquainted room.
- A garage off the animal receiving room for additional storage.
- Exterior features include dog runs and an attached fenced yard space.
- A parking lot with visitor spaces at the front and staff parking on the side, along with a gravel parking area adjacent to staff parking.

Period of Performance
The contractor is expected to commence work upon receipt of the Notice to Proceed. Substantial completion must be achieved within 300 consecutive calendar days. Final completion is required within 30 consecutive calendar days after substantial completion.

Place of Performance
The construction will take place at Richardson Drive, Amelia, Virginia 23002.

Bidder Requirements
Bidders must be properly licensed under Virginia law for their respective trades. A Performance Bond and Labor and Material Payment Bond are required for bids exceeding $500,000. Additionally, bidders must provide bid security equal to 5% of the bid amount if it exceeds $500,000. Compliance with local laws regarding nondiscrimination and drug-free workplace policies is mandatory.
