Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail Expansion & Renovation

Background
The Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail (ACRJ) is seeking prequalification from general contractors for the expansion and renovation of its facilities. The project aims to enhance the jail's capacity and functionality while adhering to modern standards.

The goal is to demolish existing structures, renovate current facilities, and construct new additions that comply with LEED-NC V4 standards for sustainability.

Work Details
The project includes:
1. Demolition of the existing East Wing (approximately 16,000 square feet), renovation of approximately 27,000 square feet of the West Wing and Ground Floor, and construction of a new two-story 40,000 square foot housing and administration wing.
2. Site work covering approximately 2.4 acres involving earthwork, grading, stormwater management facilities, underground utilities, drainage systems, lighting, signage, landscaping, erosion control measures, and demolition of existing conditions.
3. HVAC system installation featuring packaged rooftop VAV units with direct expansion cooling coils and hot water heating coils.
4. Electrical system upgrades including a new 480V service and LED lighting throughout the facility.
5. Installation of a new fire alarm system and electronic security systems including access control and video surveillance.

Period of Performance
Construction is anticipated to begin on September 15, 2025, with substantial completion expected by March 16, 2028, and final completion by May 15, 2028.

The work will be performed at the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail located in Charlottesville, Virginia.
