Description

The College of Health and Behavioral Studies expansion is a 5-story, 125,367 gross square foot building will be located to the southeast of the existing Health and Behavioral Studies building. A transparent, Circulation Bridge will connect the two buildings. Major program spaces in the project include community-oriented, state-of-the-art clinic space, along with administrative support spaces. A new patient drop-off area will be located between the new building and the existing Grace Street parking deck. Patient families and caregivers will be provided dedicated parking in the Grace Street parking deck and Wine Price parking lot. Included in scope is additional classrooms and labs for our nursing and kinesiology programs. The buildings public activity will be very visible from MLK Jr. Way, and pedestrian paths and open spaces will flank it. The new College of Health and Behavioral Studies addition embraces JMU s environmental commitment. Environmental stewardship is expressed in the use of energy efficiency standards in its design including: the generous use of natural light, energy-efficient sys-tems, reduced water usage, and an overall compressed footprint to minimize site disturbance.The CHBS-Phase 2 project will be situated to the east of the current College of Health and Behavioral Studies building. A transparent circulation bridge will link the two structures. Key features of this project will include community-focused, cutting-edge clinical spaces, teaching and simulation laboratories, classrooms, areas for student support and study, as well as administrative and faculty support facilities. This new building will consolidate several departments that are currently dispersed across the campus. Additionally, a new patient drop-off area will be positioned next to the new facility.
Background
James Madison University (JMU) is seeking qualifications for the construction of the College of Health and Behavioral Studies (CHBS) Phase 2 project. This expansion aims to enhance JMU's mission by providing state-of-the-art facilities for community-oriented clinical spaces, classrooms, and administrative support areas. The project emphasizes environmental stewardship through energy-efficient design and aims to consolidate various departments currently spread across the campus.

Work Details
The contract involves the construction of a 5-story building totaling 125,367 gross square feet, located southeast of the existing CHBS building. Key features include:
