Background
The Salt Lake City School District (SLCSD) is issuing this Request for Proposals (RFP) to seek competitive sealed proposals from qualified Nursing Agencies. The goal of this contract is to provide licensed registered nurses (RNs) who will deliver health care services to students with complex health care needs within the SLCSD.
The need for in-school nursing services has grown significantly since its inception in 2010, as the district contracts nursing services to ensure that students with complex health conditions receive appropriate care during school hours.
Work Details
The selected vendor will provide Registered Nurses (RNs) for self-contained special education classrooms and regular education classrooms across SLCSD schools. Each RN will be responsible for:
- Providing nursing care as outlined in individual health care plans for students aged 3-22, typically caring for one primary student while assisting others in the classroom.
- Meeting the health care needs of students, which may include managing tracheostomies, gastrointestinal feeding tubes, ostomies, seizure management, insulin-dependent diabetes, and other complex medical conditions.
- Administering medications, conducting blood glucose checks, and providing first aid as necessary.
- Following HIPAA standards and maintaining confidentiality of student medical information.
- Documenting services provided and communicating with parents or emergency services when needed.
- Riding the bus with students when required for medical reasons.
The agency must provide RNs who hold a current state nursing license, CPR certification, and have at least two years of documented experience.
Period of Performance
The contract will be effective for a period of five (5) years from the date of award.
Place of Performance
Services will be performed at various schools within the Salt Lake City School District.
Bidder Requirements
Bidders must have been in business providing nurse staffing services for at least five years, maintain a physical office in Utah, provide nursing staff residing within 50 miles of Salt Lake County, carry their own medical malpractice insurance, and comply with all state Medicaid requirements. Additionally, they must submit three letters of reference from similar-sized school districts and agree to adhere to FERPA regulations regarding student data.
