Background
The School of Science and Technology (SST) is an open enrollment public charter school operating 19 campuses. Its mission is to provide a high-performing K-12 college-preparatory education focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). SST intends to procure janitorial services for its 8 Houston regional campuses for the 2025–2026 school year, with an option to renew for two additional one-year terms. The goal is to maintain cleanliness and sanitation across all campuses to support a conducive learning environment.
Work Details
The vendor will provide comprehensive janitorial services including:
1. **Day Porter Services**: Eight hours of service daily (Monday through Friday excluding school holidays), including restroom policing, entry/lobby cleaning, and support for unscheduled needs such as furniture moving and light bulb changing.
2. **Nightly Cleaning Services**: Provided Monday through Friday, including:
- Emptying trash receptacles and removing trash.
- Cleaning and sanitizing drinking fountains.
- Dusting all horizontal surfaces (desktops, chairs, tables, etc.).
- Vacuuming carpets and spot cleaning as needed.
- Damp mopping hard surface floors.
- Cleaning restrooms (stocking supplies, sanitizing toilets and sinks).
- Policing entrances and public areas by sweeping outside steps and keeping waste receptacles emptied.
3. **Weekly Cleaning Services**: Conducted on Sundays including thorough mopping of floors in classrooms and public areas, vacuuming carpets, dusting surfaces, cleaning doorknobs, and maintaining restrooms.
4. **Additional Services**: Available upon request for an extra fee such as carpet cleaning, stripping/waxing floors, and exterior window cleaning. All services must adhere to safety standards and utilize environmentally friendly products where possible.
Period of Performance
The initial term of the contract will be from August 4, 2025 to June 30, 2026. SST has the option to renew the contract for up to two additional one-year terms.
Place of Performance
Janitorial services will be performed at the following campuses in the Houston region: SST Advancement, SST Sugar Land (two locations), SST Willow Creek, SST The Woodlands, SST Champions (two locations), and SST Spring.
Bidder Requirements
Vendors must have staff undergo background checks as per Texas Education Code requirements. They must provide proof of liability and worker’s compensation insurance. Vendors should submit three references from similar work done in the past five years. Compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws is mandatory. Additionally, vendors must ensure that all employees involved in janitorial services have drug screenings prior to employment.
