Asbestos Abatement at Former Abilene Animal Services Shelter

Background
The City of Abilene is seeking contractors for asbestos abatement at the Former Abilene Animal Services Shelter located at 925 South 25th Street, Abilene, Texas. The project aims to ensure the safe removal and handling of asbestos-containing materials in compliance with state and federal regulations, specifically those set forth by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and OSHA. The goal is to mitigate health risks associated with asbestos exposure during the renovation of this facility.

Work Details
The scope of work includes:
- Exterior abatement of 8,600 square feet of texture on concrete walls.
- Interior abatement involving:
- 12,000 square feet of sealant on CMU block and concrete interior walls/ceilings.
- Removal of 150 square feet of 12x12 tile/mastic in breakroom/closet.
- Removal of one sink.
- Removal of 600 square feet of sheetrock/joint compound/texture walls in restrooms 1 & 2 and fur down in breakroom as indicated on floor plans.

The contractor must adhere to all safety protocols, including providing a qualified project supervisor on-site at all times, ensuring proper waste disposal procedures are followed, and conducting air monitoring for clearance inspections post-abatement.

Period of Performance
The contract work is scheduled to commence in March 2025 and will continue until all specified abatement activities are completed satisfactorily.
