Background
The County of Lexington is seeking sealed proposals for comprehensive health care services (medical, dental, and mental health) for the inmate population of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department. The County operates a detention facility located at 521 Gibson Road, Lexington, SC 29072. The average daily population at the Detention Center for 2025 was approximately 624 inmates, including around 86 females.
The facility includes an operational clinic that provides medical services three days a week and nursing services available 24/7. Mental health services are provided on-site by qualified professionals.
Work Details
The contractor will be responsible for providing comprehensive health care services that meet NCCHC (National Commission on Correctional Health Care) and ACA (American Correction Association) standards. Required services include:
- Recruitment, training, and supervision of all health care staff including one full-time Health Care Administrator and one part-time Medical Doctor.
- Medical screening of inmates upon intake to assess health needs.
- Routine nursing services available 24/7.
- Daily triage of inmate health complaints and sick call services seven days a week.
- Coordination of emergency medical care and hospitalizations as necessary.
- Provision of dental care including emergency dental services.
- Management of pharmaceutical needs including secure storage and administration of medications.
- Maintenance of accurate medical records in compliance with confidentiality laws.
- Implementation of a detoxification program for inmates with substance use disorders.
- Mental health services including counseling and psychiatric evaluations.
Period of Performance
The contract will commence on July 1, 2026, following the award process which includes proposal submission by February 9, 2026, with evaluations tentatively scheduled for February 20, 2026.

Services will be performed at the Lexington County Detention Center located at 521 Gibson Road, Lexington, SC 29072.
Bidder Requirements
