Description

The Blue Youth Grant is an effort under the Ocean Tech Hub ( OTH ) a collaboration between the RI Commerce Corporation ( Corporation ), RI Department of Labor and Training, and the Community College of Rhode Island ( CCRI ) to support student interest and skills in careers in OTH core technology areas of robotics, sensors, advanced materials, composites, and artificial intelligence/machine learning ( AI/ML ), with a focus on undersea applications. The Blue Youth Innovation Grant seeks to prepare at least 100 students for future learning and employment in these up-and-coming industries critical to our national and regional economic development and security.
Background
The Blue Youth Innovation Grant is part of the Ocean Tech Hub (OTH), a collaboration involving the RI Commerce Corporation, RI Department of Labor and Training, and the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI).

The initiative aims to foster student interest and skills in careers related to core technology areas such as robotics, sensors, advanced materials, composites, and artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML), particularly focusing on undersea applications. The grant seeks to prepare at least 100 students for future employment in these critical industries that contribute to national and regional economic development and security.

Work Details
The grant will fund projects designed to support workforce development in OTH core industries. Eligible uses of funds include:
- Development or implementation of courses toward a high school or associate’s degree.
- Internship opportunities for high school students.
- Mentorship opportunities with industry representatives or employers in targeted areas such as AI/ML software, advanced materials, underwater vehicles, and undersea navigation technologies.

Projects must focus on:
- Advanced hard-skills development through technical skills programs.
- Coursework or credentialing pathways aligned with career and technical education programs.
- Direct industry engagement via internships, mentorships, or competitions.

Funds can also be used for establishing partnerships, hiring coordinators, compensating instructors, purchasing materials, developing coursework, and covering related expenses.

Period of Performance
All projects must be completed by December 1, 2025.

Place of Performance
The contract will be performed within the state of Rhode Island.
