Background
The City of Pittsburgh Office of Management & Budget, on behalf of the Department of Innovation & Performance, is soliciting proposals from qualified vendors for VMware Replacement. The City currently has a Broadcom VM implementation consisting of 272 cores, 1.48 TB of memory, and 37 TB of storage. The goal is to replace this with a new on-prem virtualization platform that includes software licensing, migration services, and support.
Work Details
The selected vendor will be responsible for the following:
1. Solution Implementation:
- Installation and configuration of the proposed on-premises virtualization solution on existing Cisco UCS hardware.
- Configuration of the new hypervisor environment to meet operational and security requirements.
2. Virtual Machine Migration:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive migration plan for approximately 120 virtual machines from VMware ESXi to the new platform, minimizing downtime and impact on end-users. A detailed cutover plan will be required.
3. Network Integration:
- Transfer and configure all related networking configurations including virtual switches, VLANs, and firewall rules.
4. Support and Maintenance:
- Provide comprehensive support and maintenance for the proposed virtualization solution for three years, including technical assistance with software updates and security patches.

The project timeline includes proposal submission by January 27, 2026, with contract award anticipated in February 2026.
