Blue/Green Connector Trail Improvements - Phase 1

Background
The Blue/Green Connector Trail Improvements – Phase 1 project is owned by the Little Conestoga Creek Foundation. It aims to enhance the trail system and associated stormwater management facilities in East Hempfield Township, Pennsylvania. This project is part of a larger initiative to improve the Little Conestoga Creek Corridor, focusing on environmental sustainability and community accessibility.

Work Details
The project involves the construction of a trail with associated stormwater management (SWM) facilities. Key components include:

1) One at-grade basin located in the southeastern portion of the site;
2) A thickened stone base beneath the proposed trail for stormwater management;
3) Excavation of nine test pits and corresponding infiltration tests to characterize subsurface conditions;
4) Recommendations for stormwater management facilities including design infiltration rates not exceeding 1.00 in/hr;
5) Construction of embankments with side slopes of 3(H):1(V) or flatter;
6) Implementation of a clay core in embankment structures with specific material requirements;
7) Compliance with Pennsylvania Prevailing Wage Rate requirements; and
8) Considerations for karst geology and sinkhole risks during construction.
