Resurfacing and Miscellaneous Paving 2026 Phase 1

Background
The City of Akron, Ohio, through its Department of Public Service and Bureau of Engineering, is initiating the Resurfacing and Miscellaneous Paving 2026 Phase 1 project. This project aims to enhance the city's infrastructure by resurfacing approximately 24 centerline miles of various streets across all wards. The goal is to improve road safety and accessibility for residents and visitors.

Work Details
The major components of the project include:
- Removing the asphalt surface course;
- Adjusting manhole and valve box castings using riser rings;
- Intermediate course paving as directed;
- Surface course paving.

Additional tasks may involve further asphalt depth removal, underdrain installations, subbase replacements, adjustments to manhole castings and valve boxes, base course asphalt paving, intermediate course paving, and coordination with railroad operations as directed by the Engineer.

Period of Performance
The contract work is expected to commence upon award and must be completed by October 31, 2026. The contractor must furnish and apply asphalt concrete within five working days after surface grinding is completed for each specific street.

Place of Performance
The work will take place throughout the City of Akron, Ohio, specifically on various streets listed in the bid package as well as other locations as directed by the Highway Maintenance Superintendent.

Bidder Requirements
Bidders must provide a certified check or bid bond equal to 10% of their proposed contract sum. They are required to submit a detailed Subcontractor and Supplier Business Inclusion Plan. Additionally, bidders must demonstrate compliance with insurance requirements including a minimum coverage of $2 million for public liability and property damage. Contractors must also be registered with the City’s Superintendent of Building Inspection.
