Description

Fire Hydrant Painting
Background
The City of Cincinnati, through the Greater Cincinnati Water Works (GCWW), is seeking bids for the painting of fire hydrants within the city limits. The purpose of this project is to repaint approximately 2,000 fire hydrants to enhance visibility for firefighters and to indicate water flow levels through color coding. This initiative aims to improve public safety and beautify the city by updating the appearance of the hydrants while also protecting them from rust and decay.

Work Details
The contractor will provide all labor, materials, equipment, supervision, and contract administration necessary for painting fire hydrants. The specific tasks include:
- Painting 2,000 fire hydrants using Krylon Industrial Tough Coat Alkyd Enamel paint.
- The body and side ports of all hydrants will be painted Safety Yellow (K00532910-16).
- The top bonnet of hydrants with a PSI greater than 100 will be painted Gloss Black (K00530113-16); those with a PSI of 100 or lower will match the body color.
- The front steamer port will be painted one of five colors based on rated fire flow: Safety Red, Safety Orange, Safety Blue, Safety Green, or the same color as the body.
- All hydrants must be cleaned before painting; loose paint and metal must be removed.
- Two coats of paint are required for each hydrant, applied according to manufacturer recommendations.
- The contractor must ensure safety measures are in place during work and clean up any debris post-job. Additionally, they must report any damaged hydrants to GCWW.
