Description

Notice is hereby given that sealed bids for the removal, transporting and disposal of liquid lime sludge for the Bureau of Water and Wastewater will be received by the Department of Public Works in City Hall, at One Batavia City Centre, Batavia, New York on or before 10:00am local time, February 24, 2025, at which time they will be opened and read aloud in the City Council Chambers. Bid envelopes shall be marked on the outside Bid for Removal, Transporting and Disposal of Liquid Lime Sludge .

Specifications and bid requirements for said bid may be obtained in the attachment below. All bids shall be submitted on forms provided by the City. Questions should be directed to the Bureau of Water & Wastewater at (585) 345-6317.
Background
The City of Batavia's Bureau of Water and Wastewater is seeking bids for the removal, transporting, and disposal of liquid lime sludge. This contract aims to ensure the proper management of waste generated from the water treatment process, aligning with environmental regulations and community health standards.

Work Details
The contractor must provide equipment and resources to load, transport, and dispose of approximately 1,500,000 gallons of Liquid Lime Sludge Slurry (30%-50% solids) annually from the City of Batavia Water Treatment Facility.

The sludge will be removed approximately ten times per year, with each event involving around 150,000 gallons. Each removal must be completed within two consecutive days during specified hours (7:00 AM - 5:00 PM).

The contractor should have at least four tank trailers with a minimum capacity of 6,000 gallons each and a mechanical agitator for mixing and loading. Compliance with all relevant Federal, State, and local regulations is mandatory.

The contractor must use a NYSDEC approved disposal site and provide letters from landowners confirming acceptance of lime sludge during the contract period. If the contractor fails to remove the sludge within ten business days after notification, they will incur a penalty of $500 per day.

Period of Performance
The contract will commence on April 1, 2025, and will run for two years until March 31, 2027.

Place of Performance
The services will be performed at the City of Batavia Water Treatment Facility located at 480 Lehigh Avenue, Batavia, New York.
