Description

International Business Machines Corporation ( IBM ) is the manufacturer and developer of the System Z Software portfolio. Currently, SUNY Downstate operates the IBM Z Series software license to run essential hospital and administrative applications which are housed on its Z 114 IBM mainframe.

These applications can only run under IBM's Z Series operating systems software for which SUNY-DMC must annually license the operating systems software from IBM in order to legally run it. As such, IBM is the sole provider of the Maintenance services for its software and hardware.

Accordingly, a request was made for single source exemption from advertising for IBM under which IBM will continue to provide IBM Z Series Software Licensing and Support in order to maintain SUNY Downstate mainframes.
