The New York State Department of Health Office of Primary Care and Health Systems Management, Office of Healthcare Workforce Innovation announces the availability of $19.5 million annually in New York State funding to support the Healthcare Education and Life-skills Program.

In 2022, Governor Hochul announced a $10 billion multi-year investment in healthcare, the largest in State history, to rebuild and grow the healthcare workforce and strengthen the healthcare system. The need to rebuild and grow the healthcare workforce with programs designed to improve the career pipeline, expand access to healthcare training and education, and recruit healthcare workers to underserved areas are vital in the success of this mission. The purpose of this Request for Applications (RFA) is to fund projects in ten (10) strategic regions across the State that will provide wrap around services and support for healthcare trainees including but not limited to, tuition and fees, childcare, transportation, and mentorship or life coaching. The goal of the RFA is to identify health workforce shortages and needs by region and to support targeted student populations in pursuing healthcare careers in high-need disciplines by removing barriers to graduation.

Background

Work Details

Each applicant must propose a budget between $250,000 and $1,000,000 per year for a five-year period.

Period of Performance
The contract term will run from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2031.

The program will be implemented across all counties in New York State.
