Background
The project involves the design of a standby whole house generator to replace an existing diesel generator with a natural gas or propane-fueled generator at the Hawthorne IRA, a 14-bedroom Health Care facility located in Hawthorne, NY. The project is being issued by the Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) in New York. The project is subject to prevailing wage requirements and does not allow subcontracting.
Work Details
The scope of work includes assessing the existing concrete pad for generator placement, providing a property survey and proposing the location of a concrete pad for a propane tank if propane is chosen as the fuel source, designing in accordance with current versions of the National Electric Code (NEC) and NYS Residential Code, providing analysis of the existing full load of home as per Article 220.87 of the NEC to determine adequate sizing of generator and associated services, conducting feasibility of fuel source (municipal natural gas or propane), specifying Generac generator and transfer switch as per load analysis, assessing existing electrical conductors, underground conduit, and associated services to determine proper design sizing and condition for re-use, indicating appropriate sizing of gas meter (if required), electrical lines, and associated piping, installing a new transfer switch in the same location as the existing switch, locating a disconnect switch for the generator outside the house and readily accessible, including tracer line and burial tape for any underground gas and power lines, ensuring all power lines are in conduit (interior conduit shall be EMT, exterior shall be galvanized steel rigid metal conduit), including a cold weather start kit for the generator, including a service outlet in or on the generator in the design, providing a one-line electrical diagram and all required gas and conduit piping, obtaining approval from OPWDD's engineer for the design, taking financial responsibility for any code violations per design changes, providing a cost estimate of all work associated with installation of standby generator.

The contract requires completion of work within 45 days of award.
