Extended School Day / School Violence Prevention Grant 2026-2031

Work Requested:
The Extended School Day/School Violence Prevention (ESD/SVP) Program seeks proposals to implement one or both of the following:

• Extended school day activities that support students beyond regular school hours
• School safety programs that promote violence prevention, including school-based and school-affiliated anti-gun and anti-violence initiatives

All proposed programs must align with the school safety plans required by 2801-a of New York State Education Law and must not replace or displace existing after-school funding in school districts.

Requesting Entity:
This solicitation is issued by the New York State Education Department under the authority of New York State Education Law 2814 and bill S4598D.

Background:
The ESD/SVP Program is part of the Omnibus school violence prevention grant initiative. Its aim is to support students through extended learning opportunities and enhance school safety by funding programs that prevent violence. The program now explicitly includes anti-gun and anti-violence activities as eligible school safety measures.

Contract Requirements:

• Project Period: July 1, 2026 - June 30, 2031
• Eligible Applicants: Public school districts and not-for-profit organizations collaborating with one or more public school districts
• Funding: Approximately $24.3 million is anticipated to be available each year. Continued funding after Year One depends on appropriations by the State Legislature.
• Maximum Grant Request: Each application may request up to $450,000 annually. Applicants may submit for both ESD and SVP programs, but the combined total requested may not exceed $450,000 per year (e.g., $250,000 for ESD and $200,000 for SVP).

Instructions on Submission:
Applications may be submitted by eligible public school districts or not-for-profit organizations working in partnership with public school districts. Separate applications are required for ESD and SVP programs if applying for both.
