Description

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities (WSFCU) is seeking letters of interest for the operation of a household hazardous waste collection center, centrally located within the City of Winston-Salem, to provide the citizens of Forsyth County a facility where they can deliver residentially generated household hazardous and electronic waste.

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities (WSFCU) is seeking letters of interest for the operation of a household hazardous waste collection center, centrally located within the City of Winston-Salem. The goal is to provide citizens of Forsyth County with a facility for delivering residentially generated household hazardous and electronic waste.

The collection and diversion of hazardous waste and e-waste helps prevent contamination, reduces landfill toxicity, and aids compliance with disposal bans. A permanent HHW collection facility has been operational in Winston-Salem since 1999, with e-waste accepted since 2010.

Work Details
The contractor will operate a permanent household hazardous waste collection center that includes providing the physical facility, obtaining necessary permits, supplying equipment, and trained personnel for managing HHW and e-waste. Responsibilities include accepting, screening, identifying, storing, packaging, transporting, recycling, and/or disposing of materials delivered by citizens.

The facility must be open to the public at least four days a week for six hours each day. The contractor must identify management options for each type of waste accepted and aim to reuse or recycle as much material as possible while maintaining cost-effectiveness. Compliance with environmental regulations is mandatory.

Period of Performance
The contract period will commence upon award and is expected to continue indefinitely as long as the facility operates under WSFCU's requirements.

The contract will be performed at a household hazardous waste collection center located within the City of Winston-Salem.
