Lease of 539 Acres of Farmland Adjacent to State Roads 1108 and 1125, Northampton County, NC

Background
The State of North Carolina, through the Department of Administration, is issuing a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the lease of approximately 539 acres of farmland located adjacent to the Odom Correctional Institution in Northampton County.

The goal of this contract is to lease the land for agricultural purposes, ensuring its use aligns with state regulations and supports local agricultural initiatives.

Work Details
The lessee will be responsible for using the leased land exclusively for lawful agricultural purposes.

The lease will commence upon execution and is set to end on March 31st, 2031. The lessee must maintain the property in a clean and orderly condition, free from rubbish and hazardous materials. They are required to employ sound management practices to maintain the land's original condition, including proper maintenance of drainage ways and roads.

Additionally, a deposit equal to five percent (5%) of the first year's rent must accompany the proposal, calculated on a per-acre basis. Rent payments will be made semi-annually, due on April 1st and October 1st each year.

Period of Performance
The lease term will be for five years, starting from March 1st, 2026, or as soon thereafter as possible.

Place of Performance
The farmland is located at West Side State Road 1108 and South Side State Road 1125 in Northampton County, North Carolina.

Bidder Requirements
Proposals are encouraged from Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUBs), which include minority, women, and disabled business firms that are at least fifty-one percent owned and operated by individuals from these categories.

All proposals must include a certified or cashier’s check representing a deposit equal to five percent (5%) of the Year 1 rent.
