Design-Build Services for Multi-Story Conex Fire Training Tower at Harnett Main Campus

Background
Central Carolina Community College (CCCC) is seeking proposals for Design-Build Services to construct a multi-story Conex fire training tower at their Harnett Main Campus in Lillington, NC. The project aims to enhance the training capabilities for firefighting skills, providing a facility that meets specific safety and operational standards.

Work Details
The scope of work includes the design, fabrication, erection, and construction of a three-story Class A burn building made from six (6) 9’6” x 40’ steel Conex containers. The structure will feature integrated lighting and burn rooms suitable for Class A and Class B fuel combustion.

It will be erected on a heat-tolerant concrete slab with a gated perimeter fence. Key features include:
- Installation of LP gas and water/hydrant utilities
- Configuration for controlled burning exercises and confined space evacuation training
- Integrated ramps, walkways, and platforms for climbing and ladder training
- Site preparation including tree removal, grading, paving, landscaping, fencing, and stormwater management
- Compliance with NFPA 1402 standards for fire training facilities.

The project budget is approximately $1,869,000.

Period of Performance
The anticipated selection of the design-build team is in September 2025, followed by a 9-month design and construction schedule.

Place of Performance
The contract will be performed at Central Carolina Community College's Harnett Main Campus located at 1075 East Cornelius Harnett Boulevard, Lillington, NC 27546.

Bidder Requirements
Proposing firms must be properly licensed to provide Construction Services and Design Services in North Carolina. This includes general contracting, electrical contracting, plumbing, heating and fire sprinkler contracting or landscape contracting. Additionally, firms must demonstrate experience with similar projects and adhere to HUB participation goals as outlined by North Carolina General Statute 143-128.2.
