Construction of St. James Baptist Church & the Relocation of Cherry Hill School

Background
Beaufort County, in partnership with the Town of Hilton Head Island and St. James Baptist Church, is inviting qualified general contractors to submit proposals for the construction of a new St. James Baptist Church facility and the relocation of the historic Cherry Hill School. This project aims to address safety concerns associated with the church’s current location beneath the Hilton Head Island Airport runway approach path, while preserving the congregation’s historical roots and honoring the legacy of Mitchelville.

Work Details
The contractor will be responsible for:

1. Delivering a fully constructed church facility that includes a sanctuary, fellowship hall, classrooms, offices, and other necessary spaces consistent with approved design documents.

2. Safely relocating, restoring, and reconstructing the Cherry Hill School structure to its new site within the church campus while preserving its historic character and materials.

3. Completing all related site improvements including grading, stormwater management, utilities, parking, walkways, landscaping, and lighting to create a fully functional and accessible campus that integrates seamlessly with the surrounding community.

4. Ensuring that project design and materials honor both the congregation's heritage and the historic Mitchelville area.

5. Collaborating with Beaufort County, Town of Hilton Head Island, and representatives from St. James Baptist Church for ongoing communication and timely project delivery.

Period of Performance
The contract will commence upon award and is expected to be completed within a specified timeframe that aligns with project milestones outlined in the proposal.

Place of Performance
The work will be performed at a new site within the historic Mitchelville area of Hilton Head Island.

Bidder Requirements
Bidders must demonstrate experience in church construction or historic preservation projects. They are required to provide licenses and certificates of insurance as part of their proposal submission. Additionally, contractors must comply with insurance requirements including Worker’s Compensation Insurance, Commercial General Liability Insurance naming Beaufort County as an additional insured, Comprehensive Automobile Liability Insurance, Umbrella Liability Insurance, and Professional Liability Insurance if applicable.
