Carteret County Historic Courthouse Chimney Repairs RFP

Background
Carteret County Government is seeking proposals for chimney repairs at the Historic Courthouse located at 302 Courthouse Square, Beaufort, NC 28516. The goal of this contract is to ensure the structural integrity and aesthetic preservation of the courthouse's chimneys through professional repair services.

Work Details
The contractor will perform tuckpointing and flashing replacement for four (4) chimneys. Specific tasks include:

- **Chimney Tuckpointing:**
- Inspect and remove all loose, cracked, or deteriorated mortar from chimney joints to a depth of at least ¾ inch.
- Clean joints to ensure proper bonding and repoint using matching mortar.
- Ensure proper curing and clean masonry surfaces post-repair.
- Replace any damaged bricks with matching ones at the contractor’s expense.

- **Flashing Replacement:**
- Remove existing shingles and flashing carefully.
- Install ice and water shield membrane around each chimney extending a minimum of 24 inches beyond flashing placement.
- Fabricate and install new custom copper flashing with appropriate details (head, step, apron/base, counterflashing).
- Use copper fasteners or solder for watertight assembly.

- **Shingle Replacement:**
- Install new matching shingles ensuring proper overlap and alignment with existing roofing.
- Seal all penetrations for a weathertight seal.

- **Cleaning and Miscellaneous:**
- Provide labor, materials, equipment, and supervision;
- Protect surrounding property;
- Clean debris daily;
- Verify measurements;
- Submit warranty documentation;
- Obtain necessary permits.

Period of Performance
The work shall commence upon receipt of the Notice to Proceed and must be completed within sixty (60) consecutive calendar days.

The contract will be performed at the Historic Courthouse located at 302 Courthouse Square, Beaufort, NC 28516.

Bidder Requirements
Contractors must provide a W-9 form along with current Certificates of Insurance for public liability, property damage, and Workers’ Compensation. The insurance must list 'Carteret County Government' as additionally insured. Contractors are required to comply with North Carolina Workers’ Compensation Act and maintain specified minimum insurance coverage.
