High School Auditorium Improvements

Background
The Niles Community Schools is seeking to functionally and aesthetically update the existing auditorium at Niles High School. The goal of the contract is to enhance the auditorium's usability and appearance for educational and community events.

Work Details
The project includes a base bid for extensive demolition and improvements. Demolition tasks involve removing existing seating, carpet, acoustical treatments, ceiling tiles, storefronts, doors, concrete floor sawcutting, masonry block and brick removal, half-height walls, suspended ceilings, drywall, lighting, electrical cabling and wiring, and handrails.

Improvements will include relocating the sound booth to the main floor, converting the old sound booth into a storage room, providing new seating with a revised layout, constructing a CMU block wall with a 2-hour fire rating in the corridor, installing 90-minute wood doors with hollow metal frames in the corridor and 45-minute doors in the new storage room. Additional work includes handrails installation, drywalling, light gauge metal framing, structural steel lintels & wall stiffeners installation, poured concrete work, casework & counters installation, carpet tiles installation, acoustical ceiling and wall tiles installation, decorative paneling, painting tasks, resilient base installation for stairs including treads & risers with rubber nosing and transition strips.

The project also includes installing curtains & tracks for stage management; electrical installations for balcony front row outlets; aisle lighting; house lighting; stage lighting; video projection systems with screens; video monitor systems; live stream & recording capabilities; audio console systems; microphones; loudspeakers; and choir risers.

There are three alternates: Alternate 1 involves creating a new opening through an existing masonry wall for construction traffic access; Alternate 2 involves replacing acoustical wall tiles on the back wall of the balcony with colored tiles; Alternate 3 involves applying epoxy coating to the existing concrete floor of the auditorium.

Period of Performance
The contract period will commence upon award and is expected to be completed within a timeframe that aligns with school scheduling needs.

The work will be performed at Niles High School Auditorium located at 1441 Eagle Street, Niles, MI 49120.
