DNR - TSP Cadillac - Colonel Compilation; 150.5 acres

Background
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is responsible for managing the state's natural resources, including forest resources. The goal of this contract is to conduct a timber sale prescription for the Cadillac Management Unit, specifically for the Colonel Compilation timber sale, which encompasses 150.5 acres. This project aims to manage and enhance forest health through various timber treatments.

Work Details
The contractor will perform timber harvesting and management activities across multiple stands within the specified acreage. The treatment objectives for each stand include:

- Stand 4: Low thinning of Planted Red Pine, marking to 90-110 basal area (BA).
- Stand 9: Clearcut with retention of Aspen, harvesting all trees down to 2 inches at diameter at breast height (DBH) while retaining 3-10% of total stand acreage as retention pockets.
- Stand 10: Seed tree method for Natural Jack Pine, marking to leave 20 BA focusing on quality seed trees.
- Stand 12: Single tree selection for Mixed Northern Hardwood, marking to retain sugar maple and oaks while cutting all aspen.
- Stand 46: Overstory removal of Planted Red Pine, cutting all trees greater than 6 inches at DBH and leaving no more than 10 BA of red pine, white pine, or oak.
- Additional stands (53, 55, 59, 68, 90, and 91) have specific prescriptions focusing on various thinning and clearcutting methods with defined BA targets and retention requirements.

Period of Performance
Contract work can begin immediately after the pre-work meeting scheduled before October 1, 2025. All work must be completed by July 1, 2026.

Place of Performance
The contract will be performed in Cadillac Management Unit located in Wexford County, Michigan. Access is via state forest roads north of W 4 Road near Buckley, MI.

Bidder Requirements
Bidders must comply with specific timber marking specifications and restrictions set by the Forest Resources Division. The contractor must ensure that they can identify who marked each cruise unit and may not have more than two markers in one cruise unit without prior approval.
